Sep 29, 2016 Thingiverse Warhammer 40k models - posted in Warhammer40k: Dawn Of War: Ive found a page where people make models in stl format to be 3D printed. Particularly there are some figures and vehicles for 40k More interesting even, some of them should be very familiar for all of you. Look at this collection (there are several, not only this) and see the tau, kroot, chaos warlord and the Steel Legion.
Whenever I upload a new thing, I upload the original Blender3d file, in addition to the stl file. I do this in the spirit of 'open source'. But not everyone is as big a fan of open source and sharing as me. I think Thingverse should officially encourage the inclusion of source files.
As far as what you can do, or at least what I do, if I'm trying to modify something for which I only have an stl file, is to load it into Blender in one layer; then in a separate layer I start my own model, comparing by viewing both layers, when needed; until I've got my own mesh of it. You'd be surprised how many extra benefits you get from doing this. You'll probably find dozens of things you can improve as you work on recreating the original mesh. I once downloaded the Fang Mod files, which was only available in stl, to try to improve it slightly; and the job of improving it spiralled out of control on me, until it became my most popular thing upload; the Z-19 mod (7237 downloads and counting). Another solution I have not tried yet is a re-mesher plug-in for Blender that takes a terrible mesh and automatically re-defines using quads, which are easier to work with than triangles. I bought the plug-in, but was not sure how to install it, so it's been gathering dust. Comments are closed.
